Torque Converter

A torque converter is a type of fluid coupling, which allows the engine to spin somewhat independently of the transmission. It is responsible for applying pressure to the automatic transmission fluid, which supplies the force necessary to shift the transmission gears.

The Torque Converter consists of the following four components:

Impeller
Turbine
Stator
Transmission fluid

A dysfunctional or worn torque converter can prevent transmission fluid from being pressurised properly, negatively impacting the transmission gear function and operation.
